INTRODUCTION OF REMOTE CONTROLLED YARD CRANES (RTGS) AT THE PORT OF FELIXSTOWE

Hutchison Ports Port of Felixstowe has taken delivery of its first remote-controlled Yard Cranes/Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (RTGs). The eight new electric-powered cranes will serve Berths 8&9 where additional container storage has also been created to meet the growing demand at the UK’s leading container port. Commissioning for remote control has now commenced and as a result there will be certain aspects of operation which need to be made familiar to our Haulage operator partners.

The following links portray what these changes are and what will be expected and required to ensure the safe introduction of these cranes into operation in due course.

  • Animation showing the differences and expectation within the new blocks can be accessed here

  • FAQs supporting the introduction of RFID tags can be accessed here

  • The RFID installation template can be accessed here and the RFID installation video supporting such can be accessed here

KWL are proud to have raised £266 from their coffee morning held at the Felixstowe office on 27th September 2024.
The success of the event was down to the generous support of staff, family, friends, customers & suppliers who all came along to enjoy the refreshments.
